What is virtual and augmented reality?
Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-generated simulation of a real-life environment or situation which uses your vision and hearing to make you feel like you are in another world – for example, the prehistoric one being created by DinosAlive. It’s usually done with special glasses or goggles and places you completely inside another reality, overriding your other senses that want to tell you you’re still standing in, for example, a shopping centre.
One could say that augmented reality (AR) is more rooted in the physical than VR – this technology needs a physical beacon or marker like a box, line or shape to place computer-generated imagery over it and place it in your line of vision as if it’s part of your world. So if virtual reality places you inside the dinosaur world, augmented reality puts the dinosaurs into your world.
